A “bitu-man”, a scarecrow mounted on a 45 gallon drum bobbing in the recently completed Southern Tailings Pond of Suncor’s Millennium Project. These low-tech devices anchored intermittently on the surface of the 20 square kilometer “pond” are intended to scare waterfowl and discourage them from landing in the toxic water.
